I have some proggraming experionce with visual basic6.0 but i want to start using java. I dont know what's the best way for me to start doing that. may you help me plz?

You need a book, and there's loads of them on amazon. I don't have a strong feeling on which one to use, but I notice that Herb Schildt has a book called "Java: A Beginner's Guide, Third Edition (Beginner's Guide)", and I like his beginner's guide for C.

And yes, a good development enviroment is important. On windows, eclipse might be your best bet. On a mac, xcode might be just fine for you. The key feature is a java debugger, and both of these enviroments have that.

If you follow the tutorials at java.sun.com you can get a good understanding of the language but if you have a specific question and you dont want a bunch of smart *** answers from script kiddies jockying for points go to http://home.dreamincode.net The Java section is top notch. Oh did I mention that it is a free community for programmers by programmers.
