Crying can actually be cathartic, it can help you feel better. But obviously you don't want to be crying for too long. If you know what specific issue is bothering you, address that issue. Ask yourself, "What can I do to improve the situation?" and "Will this really matter in five years?" If you are crying for no apparent reason, hormones or a chemical imbalance might be affecting your mood. If you are depressed and can't seem to "snap out of it," see a doctor.

Motion creates emotion. Studies have shown that physiology plays an important role in regulating emotions. For example, if you look down and frown, you will feel worse. If you look up and smile, you'll feel better. Try holding a mirror up above your head, then look up and smile at yourself. You'll probably start laughing at seeing your goofy, tear-stained smiling face. Also, go help someone else (mow your neighbor's lawn, volunteer at a soup kitchen, whatever). It is hard to feel bad about yourself when you are helping others who have are in more difficult circumstances than you.

I suppose you are talking about crying because of a disappointment and not tears of joy...
so,,,,
if you accept grief=disappointment, then its 5 stages are believed to be....

first is angry
2 Denial
3 Bargaining
4 Depression (this is where crying usually is)
5 Acceptance
...(tears of joy or laughter can be here)

so you can choose to go to something that occurs before the the crying again
or
something after the crying

I believe a "good way" is to move forward to acceptance.

Don't you?

I feel crying is always best to just run it's course. Everyone needs a good cry every now and then. When you're done crying you usually have a clearer mind and can face the issue that's making you cry logically.

Look up jokes on the computer - lots of them. Watch comedy shows. Get out of the house and go to a pet store to look at the animals. Lots of ways - use whatever works for you. BTW: crying isn't always a bad thing - did you just suffer a terrible loss? In that case, its completely normal - cry your eyes out THEN look up the jokes. I hope you feel better is this is really your problem - ignore the nasty people on here that post nasty answers - they aren't worth your time.

Get up and take an action. Do something nice for someone else without expecting recognition or a reward. Clean your room. Pay a bill. Do something productive. Crying is a waste of time and energy. Would you want your best friend to spend all her time crying? Of course not! You would want your best friend to be insanely happy. Why treat yourself worse than your best friend?

The thing to do is to get out of your own head.

Love, Jack.

"Hello lyla!
You have asked an incredibly difficult question and have given no clues why you feel "captured" by this depressive symptom.
Never-the-less, I'm compelled to disclose a little about myself because I see me in you.
After adolescence, I began, every 3 or 4 years, to have these "epiphanies" of understanding. I would wake up one morning and understand something new about myself. Most of the time I felt embarassment and shame. The new understanding allowed me to see how I was treating my family, friends and acquaintances in an unsatisfactory manner. I had failed in taking the proper responsibility for my behavior. This caused me weeks of depression.
The psychological mechanism of my "self" was involved. My new understanding gave me a new picture of who I am; however, it meant I had to give up the "old self" and that was difficult and caused depression. I was so comfortable in my "old self" that I was loath to give it up. Over time, I adjusted.
From adolescence onward, I have had these "epiphanies" and suffered depression because of them, but, the depression appears to be limited and passes quickly now. As a result, I have continually felt better about myself. I have evolved into a relatively adequate human being and I'm proud of it; however, I don't feel that a lot of pride is necessary ... I have control of most vices which my "epiphanies" have provided me.
I believe you might be experiencing the same type of depression I have. If so, remember that your not alone and you have reason to discontinue the symptom of depression you express to others."

Sweetie, look up at the sky now and think how beautiful life can be. Talk to God there if u believe in Him. If not, just talk to the wind and nature and absorb the beauty of your surrounding. Do this many, many times and with time you'll heal yourself.

Also, always tell yourself that YOU can take care of yourself and that you can heal yourself. Listen to 'Fix You' by Coldplay but imagine u singing this to urself.
especially the part that says " I will try to fix you".

p/s Who says we cannot fix ourselves rite?

Be kind to yourself, stop crying ok...

If you're taking any medication, that could be messing with

your hormones. It can make you cry all the time (especially

birth control pills.) Try not to take too much medication.

Try to do things you enjoy, then you won't be sad.
