...before bringing an innocent life into the world ? A hugh percentage of pregnant teenagers nowadays fall pregnant by accident rather than design. I personally think that they should be forced to go on a mandotory course to learn the basics in childcare, and/or birth control.

sex education in this country is dire, therefore sex education needs to be mandatory. When i say sex education I don't just mean the biological aspect, I think kids need to be taught about the emotional and mental side also. It's no good saying this is how you get pregnant and this is how to prevent it, kids need to be taught about the realities of pregnancy, childbirth and STD's. They should be exposed to the consequences of sex without responsibility in all its graphic detail. Girls think of babies as cute and cuddly, what they don't think about is what pregnancy does to the body, the pain of childbirth, the sleepless nights, smelly nappies and forever commitment to that person they create, they don't think because nobody spells it out to them. As for I.Q testing, bright kids get pregnant just as easily as not so bright ones, and, as somebody has already pointed out not all adults are that bright. You don't have to be a genius to be a good parent, you need common sense, patience and lots of love. Believe me, I've met some poorly educated parents who are great and some bright ones who have no common sense or who are just plain selfish. So, in answer to your question, no, I don't think I.Q. testing would achieve anything.

The IQ of a person has nothing to do with her ability to take care of a child. Therefore, they should not be IQ-test. It would be really awful if we had such cases as a baby placed in foster care because his mother was not a genius, or a IQ below average.

I think the solution would be prevention. Sex education for teenagers, male and female, should be taken much more seriously.
Nevertheless, I reckon that your idea of a childcare course is interesting. It should be included in high school courses.

Well it would have been nice if they would have used birth control before the fact. We have to many unwanted and mistreated children because of this fact. I do think that there should be training in how to take care of the child and there should be some kind of monitoring for the first year of the childs life. I don't think an IQ test would matter either way.

i think it is a good idea to offer guidance. but if it is forced upon an individual, the effects may not be as helpful as if the person volunteers.

Most mums to be would jump at the oppertunity to learn a thing or too about being a mum. It can be a very scary experience for an adult, let alone a young teenager.

Excellent point agree with you wholeheartedly.

It is a sad fact about teenage pregnancy that it is escalating.

A point I often think about for the future..

A boy and a girl meet at a nightclub ..they could have the same father and dont know it..so they could be brother and sister.. they then decide to have a sexual relationship whoa..what would be worse is if they genuinely fell in love with each other then find out they are brother and sister....devastating..two lives ruined.

No, IQ has nothing to do with it. More sex education classes in schools would help solve this problem. They fall pregnant "by accident" because they don't know about sex well enough not to do it or even how to protect themselves if they do since many are not taught at home by their own parents.

Sterillisation at the age of 8 should prevent this for people under a certain IQ level- harsh i know but fair!

Like the idea of giving them forced to learn the basics....No point IQ testing the proof is in the fact as to that they are preganant at such a young age. I understand not all are that way but most are..

I think the suggestion of a course in childcare is an excellent one, but unless the teen is under 18, I doubt that it could be mandatory.
