I'm in a fantasy football league on nfl.com. I'm looking at the "trade bait" page and the intro states "Trade Bait are players riding the pines in your league..."

"Riding the pine" means sitting on the bench (in fantasy terms, not being chosen as a starter).

people who are on the team, but get no p/t (playing time) or tick (time on the court, field, etc). usually less skilled than the players who play the most (duh - lol)
