No, never.... that said: Pitt is looking better, is the better actor (not that hard, being a better actor than Cruise) and, except for Tom Cruise co-starring in Magnolia and starring in War of the Worlds (underrated movie, by the way!), can be seen in some (he's done some very stupid films, though) far better films, like Thelma and Louise, 12 Monkeys, Se7en, Fight Club, etc. and Pitt's girlfriend being an intelligent Oscar winning beauty, while Cruise's girl is erm...
But it is far more interesting to have a look at how many projects they've got in the pipeline:

Brad Pitt is a fine fisherman .. but Tom Cruise is good with flying jets. I'd have to give the overall nod in Tom Cruise's favor. However, putting Hollywood power aside for a moment and at a more personal level, I prefer Brad Pitt. He acts just a tad less inane in public than Tom Cruise does. Tom Cruise reminds me of the Disney character, Goofy, nice, kind'a dumb and always ready with an empty headed smile. Must be all that great Scientology at work for him. Good luck ! :)

Threat in what way? Each of them are good actorsin their own right. Tom is more polished than Brad and more business minded. Brad however have a raw appeal.
