i always thought it was one of the finnish rally champs. but on hind sight it may be a pun, stig of the dump a name that rhymes with that.

It's always a top driver but it's not consistent - they will just have whoever is available at the time. That's why the identity is anonymous and it's just 'The Stig'.
It did used to be Damon Hill as he comfirmed it in his biography.

The Stig changed last year, it used to be Perry McCarthy, not sure who it is now

i heard it was Damon Hill but a bit odd considering the amount of times he has gone on the show and taken differnet driving lines to 'The Stig' and his driving times and styles are different.

It's a guy called Perry M'Carthy who does 90% of the Stig driving but there is also one other.

His lines round the track suggest a current or former touring car driver and he wears size 10 boots. Frank Biela is my choice.
