How about a bird that you can teach to talk! That will certainly occupy you. Just think of what you can teach it to say!

Forget the hamster suggestions.....they don't live long and are kinda nasty. My daughter has a Chinchilla....best pet we ever owned! Very easy to take care of......basically just need food, treats like nuts and dried fruit, and water. Also needs a pumice stone to keep their teeth ground down. They also need to take "dust baths" to keep their coats clean....which is a trip to watch! The initial cost is a little pricey......our Chinchilla cost $180 3 years ago. You will need a cage....one with an open grate so that their droppings will fall down into a tray that you line with some type of litter. Their fur is extremely soft......they actually make coats out of the poor little things! If you get one that is young, and handle it regularly, they will love to be held and played with. I understand that they can even be taught to do some simple tricks. They kinda look like a cross between a rabbit, squirrel, and large mouse.....with Mickey Mouse ears! Check them out online, I think you will be very interested! Oh, and they live a long time too.....I think up to 20 years, but not sure. Enjoy!

You know this sounds strange, but I got a rat at the pet store, the greatest little pet I ever had. Believe it or not rats crave human companionship, they love affection, attention and will do anything for food! I trained mine to come when he is called, steal money from wallets and walk on a leash (that was tricky). They usually go to the bathroom in one area of their cage, but they go to the bathroom ALOT. They love to eat! The average life span is three years, they make no noise and can be very entertaining. The rats you buy at the pet store are not the typical gutter rats you see on t.v. They are domesticated lab rats and have a bit of wit about them. Anyway, just a suggestion. Good Luck

to be truth full any pet is a bit of work even a fish or do you just want all the fun and expect it to feed itself.
if you seriously consider a pet get some ting that inspires you and if you love your pet taking care of it would not be so much trouble to you. otherwise look for a spider some were in the corner of the walls in your house they feed themselves and when you are Bord try to catch some insects" live ones" and let them fly into the spiders web then see how amazing it is when the spider moves and catches its pray it quiet interesting. don´t know how long it will amuse you.

how about a desert tortoise? you feed them greens (not iceberg lettuce and not spinach but the other lettuce types are good) and tortoise food, and other than cleaning their cage weekly are easy. u have to have a lamp that gives them some rays like the sun, the pet store can explain this. they are not very smelly cuz they live in a relatively dry environment, put rocks in their cage. Here is the negative: some of them live to be 100 years old and weigh over 50 pounds full grown. But they start out very small and grow slowly!!!!!

Whats wrong with fish?? I had a siamese fighting fish. They have fancy tails/fins. They don't need a oxygen pump, all they need is a good size glass jar, blood worms, small fish net to take to new glass jar, clean other glass jar switch each week. EZ to take care of!

Keep fish out of sun!

They are fascinating to watch! Just go to the pet store and watch them.

Red ones, blue ones, purple ones. All pretty!

Quiet Pet!

Parakeet is 2nd choice! Noisier. Messier, can spill seeds out of its cage onto the floor. They bite!

NONE! Do not get an animal because you're bord-that's not fair to the animal! Obviously you are avoiding most of the choices because you are too lazy to take care of anything..that is so pathetic! Get a job or read a book or something productive!

Don't get an animal just because you're bored. That's not very fair to the animal. Make sure you do it for the right reason and that you really want it and will care for it, and not toss it aside when you grow bored again.

I suggest not getting an animal at all. Being "bored during the day" is NOT a good reason to adopt a companion animal. Chances are, eventually, you'll get bored of them, too.

I love having parakeets, if you get just one then you have to spend allot of time with it. You can teach them all kinds of stuff. They are not too messy, like cockatiels or larger birds. They chirp and talk all day. You can teach them to answer your calls and to go on your shoulder, they get very attached to you. If your not going to be home very much I strongly suggest that you get 2, they are very social and need constant companionship.Always have a mirror in the cage. Great pets, very lovable...Good luck

why you think an animal can help you.
what happened if you get bored of the animal?
Read a book. Start your own Internet site. Learn how to make hand craft or enrolled in a cuisine course.
