I am renovating a bar and the previous people put this awful heavy texture all over the walls as well as the wooden support beams. Also, the beams have had a lot of the texture knocked off and I think it would not look good if I sanded it down and repainted. What can I cover it with to make it look nice?? I was thinking 8" tiles ?? Steel ?? HELP :)

The bar is in a ski town and will be more of a lounge w/ an urban vibe. Lot's of live music and warm and inviting. I understand that people don't normally cover beams but I see no other option at this point.

I think you should cover it with the steel. Like the kind trucks have for their running boards. I can't remember what it is called right now, but it has the X's all over it. That would look really nice and be hardly and upkeep. All you would have to do is wipe it down with a damp cloth.

Tiles or anything that could fall off the beam would be a bad idea. Liability, remember?

People don't cover beams, so I'm confused by your idea. Have you dropped into other bars or restaurants to get some ideas? Look around and see what you like. You should also look at some interior design magazines and see if anything rings right for you.

I'd stick to revamping the wood if it's possible unless it goes totally against the grain (pardon the pun) of the theme of the place. Alternatively, it can always be turned into a Peeler bar and you can cover the support beams in strippers. Nahh...my first idea is better.

Sounds like it would be difficult, but I think your best bet is to strip the wood beams with some kind of chemical to expose the natural wood. If you have to scrap, then scrape it. When the wood is exposed - it will be worth it. Then you'll have many options - stain, paint, or tiling.

One more option maybe to install a drop ceiling (ACT) and use colored tile to keep it modern.

Depends what kind of bar.

Hip and Cool.

Country & Western.

City setting or just a local watering hole.

Is the bar in a home?

Home Depot has a plastic type covering that is easy to install and looks nice. There is no upkeep on these.

Repaint in black would give depth and it would be way cheaper
