I had mine on a Friday and back to work the following Monday. Just make sure he keeps it on ice afterwards. That will help any swelling that may occur.
The procedure is not bad at all and on a pain scale of 1 - 10, I'd rank it around a 3.
I'd do it all over again if I had to.

I was a drummer in a band and I had a vasectomy at 5 PM and was playing drums that same evening at 9 PM. I guess that it depends on what you do for a living. The more physically demanding, the worse it probably is.
After the out patient operation is finished, the doctor (or assistant) will give you a suspension device (sort of looks like a jock strap) to wear to help support the testicles. Just make sure, when showering, to take it off carefully. There might be blood clotted to the suspension device. Be careful not to tear out the stitches because it will bleed like heck. Wash the area gently, don't scrub, because it will also tear open the stitches.
The reason that I'm saying this is because when I had the procedure done, I was taking off the suspension device and the blood was clotted to it. Instead of wetting it and softening it some, I just took it off. It tore the stitches and it bled a lot. I used alum to clot the incision again. It burned like wildfire. But it stopped it. Then I took a shower and dressed and went on to my gig.
Expect the area to get bruised (black and blue) from the operation. It's normal. It should be completely healed in about 2 weeks. Lots of luck!

He will be fine---just do as the doctors says. No activities for awhile. I had a friend get this done and he was back to work in three days and was perfectly fine. If the Doc says to stay in bed for 24 hrs then do it.......
I had another friend that had this done and did NOT listen to the Doctor..(went fishing right after the surgery)....needless to say he spend the next few days recooperating because his jewels swelled up to the size of grapefruits and turned black.
So I guess the short of it is ----LISTEN TO THE DOCTOR
Good Luck

The general advice here looks good. It doesn't restrict normal activities, and you can return to work quickly. As someone else mentioned, a children's party might be too strenuous - being accidentally kicked or head-butted will be seriously unpleasant! So kids will need to know your son's daddy isn't feeling well.
Also, don't forget you must use birth control until he has been tested negative for sperm in his ejaculate - that can be a month or more.

It's not bad.
Just have a bag of ice ready when he gets home.
And some aspirin or other over the counter pain killer.
I was fine after 2 days.
Had mine 11 years ago.

Well,
Everyone is different - I am in sales and was back to work in about 3 days; just have to wait and see
Running, jumping or any "horseplay" is out for the party. Also if you are out and it is hot, the stiches can get itchy.
Good luck,
j

My recovery was awful. I also got an infection and had to keep the incision open and packed with gauze for weeks.

Can he change his mind about the surgery? What man
wants to be cut "down there"? I am 52 now, (a woman)
and your reproductive years don't last forever. My idea
is "don't fool with Mother Nature." Is it because you want
to have sex all the time? Do something else.
