Acetone is used by nail techs because it actually takes the nail polish off faster. Most nail polishes that are sold on the market contain some acetone, and then there are some that don't. I advised against mixing acetone with your nail polish. Acetone and nail polish removers contain small amount of oils, and if mixed with nail polish it will bubble when applied. If you need to thin your polishes I suggest that you purchase a nail polish thinner. Use it sparingly or else your polish will break down and will chip faster. I would not use paint remover to take off your nail polish it can be extremely harmful to your skin and was not intended for use on the hands or feet. Go to Sally's and purchase a good nail polish remover with acetone if your having a hard time getting your polish off.

Nail polish remover TYPICALLY contains acetone, but not in all cases. You can purchase non-acetone. It's in the same spot, no real difference in price, a small notation on the label. If you mix it with nail polish, it will just thin it out a bit. A good piece of advice if your nail polish is older and has gotten too thick to use!

Some nail polish remover does contain acetone. I believe you can buy it separately as well.

Acetone is one of the many petroleum distillates, acetone, ketone, toluene, methylene, and various others. They are the left overs in the production of plastics. In fact gasoline, kerosene, are left overs from the processing as well.
