I believe that the unspoken question is, "What should I do to let her know that when she talks during football I want to shush her, but I catch it, but now she wants quiet during GMA? What's wrong with this picture?"

The answer to your question is simply to apologize after the show is over, and then REMEMBER it when football is on.

You are a man, so you will have to apologize, it goes without saying. Even if you give her a little shush when football is on, and then remind her about GMA, you will still have to do it in the form of an apology. It is kind of like Jeopardy for men.

How comfortable is your bed? If you love sleeping in your bed, I'd shush. If your couch is more comfortable, keep yapping. Good luck!

Say, "Don't shush me!" in a loud and slightly wounded tone of voice. That's what I do. It doesn't work, in fact it usually makes the "shusher" laugh at me, but it lets him know I don't like that.

I tell you, I get no respect. No respect at all...

Let's imagine she was trying to talk to you while you are watching a sports event on tv. ...I THINK you would shush her and never think twice about it.

Stop talking to her when she is trying to hear something. Quite sure you don't want anyone interrupting something you are trying to hear.

Oh and yeah, what Gemm said
