I am about to enter the second of my three terms at uni so I think it's time to start looking in to jobs.

I have worked as an admin assistant with the MoD (ministry of defence) through an agency, so I know that to be an admin assistant you need 5 A-C GCSEs (I only had 4 but again I was working with them through an agency). I tried to apply back then so I can offically work with them but I didn't get the job.

In the end I got fed up and decided to get back into education. So I am at Uni doing a BA degree in Sociology. A lot of people say you can't do much with a Sociology degree but to be honest I didn't think I would do well in any other subject.

So how many ranks can I go up from an admin assistanct position? Or does it make no difference whatsoever whether I have a degree or not?

To sdarp1322: I didn't say I know nothing about my area of study. I'm studying it because I happen to enjoy it. I am just stuck because I want to know what kind of rank I can apply for. So if I wanted a job as an admin, but happen to have the skills to apply for the next rank up then why wouldn't I?
