Since we have Ergonomics - an applied science that coordinates the design of devices, systems, and physical working conditions with the capacities and requirements of the worker.

Why isn't possible for chickens to have Eggonomics.
Did someone just say "Ouch!"

Brilliant question !
I have done some research on this by leaving a chicken egg cup in with my Muskovy duck that lives under a water tank.
It doesn't get the message, the eggs don't fit. Omelettes then.
The chickens are more accomodating but one looked at me as if to communicate "well, what size & grade do you want ?"
I had some fish-eggs served once in a standard chickens' egg cup, and they didn't fit exactly either.
It could be that egg producers are mysteriously linked to egg cup manufactureres. Perhaps the chickens have a stake in the business.

Thanks for cheering up a dull moment.

We have chickens ( live ones - in the grounds )

I'm afriad the "how to lay a good Egg" book does not cover the size of an egg. This book talks more about shape, colour, regularlity and place.

We were getting all sorts of size problems but once we read the book ourselves we figured it out. We arranged a bit of team-building and taught the chickens how to lay just the right size eggs. Everythng is now fine again

great question though

Chickens have been selectivly bred to produce the correct size of egg.

Genetically engineering a chicken with genes from the box tree will give us square eggs for easy packing.

That's spooky, must be a government conspiracy, lets change all the egg cups to square over night, the chickens will be well flummoxed.. we will overthrow our feathered overlords in due course

From the price labels on the ones in the shop, on the other side of the road.
That's a myth I'm afraid.
It's cuz they spent a few buuuuck, buuck bucks on pottery lessons. You know the type,,,the clay pigeon gives them.

the size of an egg is determined by a metal loop inserted by the farmer into the hen. thats how we produce differnt sizes and why hens make so much noise.

not true, chickens have a secrect society where they conspire to make egg cups to a secret equation, this enables them to produce eggs of a certain size. its all part of the big plan.
