Make up some survey cards for existing customers, asking for feedback from existing customers - not too long! Most important question, "If you could change anything about this place what would it be?" You'd be surprised at the things that put people off, that you wouldn't think of.

Soon as changes are made and you're making money, get food happening. Get a buffet table. If you have to, cook the food elsewhere and bring them in. Keep it hot and sell it cheap, anything that the locals like.

You need a strong door policy, nothing attracts people like the prospect of not being able to get into a place, and it''ll keep all the nuisance customers out. Friendly bar staff is a must. Try and think of events that will bring customers in, go beyond the usual band nights, think outside the box, Dog Owners Nights, Texas Hold-em nights, etc.. Cheap beer promotions can help, but they can also be a stick to whip yourself with. Clean nice decor, no trash on the walls, I could go on and on and...

Quite a number of good suggestions I agree most with Lisa, find out from the customers themselves what they think. Spend time on the floor talking to people, find out what they like, what they don't like. Check the neighboring area for other bars, what kind of bars are doing well? Also a name change and appearance change might be a good idea.

Good staff is the key, you need waitstaff, bartenders that get along with people, but still understand it is a business.

thier are many things you can try first need to know what type of area it is in were it is located ect...what was it`s main clientel. but just takeing a shot in the dark, first revamp the place add young bands for younger bar goers. add things that will make your bar stand out.run some type of promtion to atract the type of customer you would like to have. word of mouth is good but take out an add in the paper set up a web page.show the people you have the best bar around.

You blockhead :) Sorry, couldn't resist ! I would suggest turning it into a place where people could bring their children. Serve lunch and dinner specials that change daily and pick one or two dishes to be a specialty you can be known for.Anyone can buy alcohol . Make it a place people would want to meet at and socialize in.:)
