you can put short-cuts to programs you use alot and then just move the mouse to the bar and click once; instead of searching through menus to find. usually you can just drag and drop shortcuts.

It hold shortcuts to programs. You can put whatever shortcuts you like in there, in the same way you would add a shortcut to your desktop. For example, if you wanted a shortcut to My Computer, you would simply click the My Computer icon, but using the right instead of the left mouse button, keep the button held down, drag to the quick launch bar and release. A menu will pop up. Click "Create shortcut here", and a new shortcut will appear in your quick launch toolbar. A single click on this icon will open up whatever the shortcut is for.

it's a quick way to launch a program with just one click. you don't have to search all over the desktop (which can get quite cluttered) or all through your programs in the start button. you can put your most frequently used programs on quick launch and they're always easily accessible.
