Bush tried to come up with a solution, and anti illegals rejected it. Now, they will have to contend with a more equal house and senate after November, and possibly a democratic president. At best, we are looking at 2 years before anything else happens, effectively giving illegals 2 years of amnesty (what the antis were trying to avoid to begin with) Have they shot themselves in the foot? Have they caused an irrepairable division in the republican party?

Republicans in general are not split on this issue .Thyey all favor cheap labor no matter the source .
This is a working mans problem .Immigrants are not challenging the high paying technical fields or proffesions .THEY are only a factor among low skill and trades jobs and this is the working mans issue .
Republicans have never cared about working america or what effects it .
I wish it was as easy as they make it out .That the republicans are divided and that a solution will not be available till the summer of 2009 .THIS is the real truth and Republicans do not want to take a hit on immigration when so many of the operations they run are out of this country and in mexico .
IT might impact job performance and costs in mexico to take a position against Illegals.

The Immigration issue has split both parties . The problem is most US citizens want them out and all politicians want the illegal vote. Its not just a Republican problem . The problem with a Democratic President is they want to give them all citizenship and I don't believe all Democrats will be in agreement with that .

Just like last year's show to address immigration I don't believe any politician had any plan to tackle this, especially in an election year.
New citizens vote in the highest percentage of any other demographic. And while they may be American's now, they were recently immigrants and often feel the plight of the illegals. No politician wants to risk voter backlash from a group represents a small percentage of registered voters, but a large percentage of people who vote.
Immigration is the new abortion, it's a political hot potato. It's an issue that one side or the other loves to throw in the air to get his opponent to comment on, but is one that neither side wishes to address on the floor of the legislature.

Not so simple. It depends on which state/part of the state the Senator/Representitive is from. If your political base is pissed off about illegals, you are going to be against them no matter which party you are. Also depends on where your campaign money comes from. If big business is your biggest contributor, you will be more likely to be for some sort of compromise. No matter whether a person is a Democrat or Republican, if your a loser, your a loser - don't blame it on Mexicans, etc... That's my philosophy anyway.

The immigration issue has split the dems also. This is an issue that has both parties in a quandary. In the end the republicans will come together and the dems will still have no platform and will just continue with the Bush sucks.

Well you won`t see on the news anything about immigration with the mid terms coming and you will see gas prices go down until after the election. You will see 911 movies on 911 on NBC that were made by Rush Limbaugh`s friend because they cannot win on homeland issues.

it has split the GOP. conservatives want to protect the border. moderates and democrats dont.
but then again immigration isnt really the issue, illegal entry across the border is the issue.
there are no republicans against legal immigration, that i know of.
we still on for tonight baby?

what is the democrates stand on the issue of illegals?
(your question doesnt govern me, therefore i have no need to respect the question)
EDIT, sorry, i certainly hope not, i see the liberals fighting for the rights of illegals, overlooking the fact that they are all law breakers for being here. I would like to see a push to register them all to be legal....
