I have a lovely red lava lamp but when i turn it on the wax doesnt flow nicely up and down the lamp - it just sits in the bottom in a big lump, no matter how long i heat it up for. is my lava lamp doomed for the bin................................?

I had to chuck mine, I even heated it up in a pan of boiling water (not my cleverest moment I must add) and I binned it soon after.
Try woolworths, they always seem to have them for about a tenner?

It is only the heat from the bulb that could cause this the wax needs to melt the parafin mixture does the rest, unless someone has switched it for water or summit

Sorry, but once you get to the point where the lava doesn't flow anymore no matter how long you leave the bulb on, it's dead.

I would suggest changing the bulb, but there is a good chance that the bin will be its home in the near future, I would imagine.

It sounds like it is not getting hot enough to melt the wax, I would replace the bulb, if that doesn't work then it sounds like something is wrong with your wiring and isn't as strong as it used to be.

Turn it up-side-down and magically it will flow to the "top".
Turn it over, and it will settle back down.
Alternate this technique until you tire.
Guaranteed to work every time.
