Am i too believe that my future hasnt yet been written? Like a surfer standing on the edge of a wave moving unsteadily into the unknown. If i were to travel into the past wouldnt that person think that HIS future was unwritten as well? Since i am from his future i know its not. Logically if i can see the past then someone from my future can see me( in picture or book of course) which means my future is already set.(Unless i was to recieve some foreknowledge about my future). Thinking that we are the forefront of history is like thinking the sun orbits around the earth, its silly. We are only a point in history. Some would call this predestination. The mere fact that i can remember the past leads me to believe that perhaps some where in the future someone is doing the same about me. If this is all true then time travel should be possible in both direction. What does this have do with you? What do you think? Its your life, your...future(So to speak).

Frog dog... Your speaking from the presective of you first. What if all time is happening at once all around us. Time is relative to the watchers perspective. It may go slow for you but fast for me depending on my perspective. The future has already happened you just dont know it because your stuck unable to move in your own time.

soapintrucker....exactly. The other side of my question would have been if the future isnt fixed then time travel is impossible because as you said you cant go somewhere that doesnt exsist yet.

I think that you have over thought this whole question -- a common error.
I reality, all any of us can know is ourselves, now. Our reality consists of right now, right here. Anything else is simply rumor.
More importantly, the only control we have is over ourselves, right now.
We cannot change the past. We cannot predict or know the future, we can simply to the best we can now.
Are we destined to follow a particular course and do certain things at a certain time? I really do not know. I do not believe so but.

The concept of time travel defined in terms of physics defines how time travel can be done. However, you and your future have one thing that the time travel "guide" doesnt have, the ability to make choices. All of us have the urge to say what if I could go back in time and do something differently. The compelling factor here is to do it today, go out today and do something uncharacteristic, thereby changing the flow of events, now you can say it was predetermined that you wrote this question and I answered it and probably predetermined that you either act or not act on what has been said but thats not the truth, you have a choice of acting on a suggestion or not and thus the choice. If you travel in the past and find DaVinci trying to create a Gold Horse instead of a bronze horse or puzzling over whether the helicopter is worth it and he makes a choice which is different than what you know, you are out of synch with the events of time and thus your knowledge of the future is inaccurate because of the choice that person has made. Time runs in multiple dimensions (read the String theory) where the possibilities of each decision determine the thread that is going to act as your primary reality. However the rest of thread that exist are the possibilities that may exist given a set of cirmcumstances but as real as the primary, yes it gets confusing but the fact is each deicision you make in a moment determines how your "future" is determined. Forrest Gump said it the best "Maybe its both, we are floating in air and clashing with the each other on a predetermined basis"

Your missing the whole real aspects! Understand this. Time itself is an illusion. The Infinite is the true reality! Within the whole of infinity, points are made with no geometry, just dots. These zero points the natural fluctuations or breath of the infinite one might say. These dots begin to trade back and forth information. Refer to fractal geometry and the interactions of energy systems. In fact you said it yourself, we are only a point in history. Once any kind of motion (trade of information) is made the illsion of time is created. Over a very long period of this time, information is traded between points and grand illusions are created. The point here really is to say that we are actually the one infinite being. The illusion that you are just one person is the lie you have been tought and man in general has been taught over vast amounts of time. The truth is just as Quantum Physics states-When you are here, you are actually everywhere. Not easy to digest at first but yet true! Why do you think all the religious people thought about oneness. They understood the simplicity of truth. Buddha raised himself out of the material exsistance and saw a place of Infinite Light, all the ancient seers speak of similar things. The fact thet you think you are here is just information, but not a reality! Do you get that? There are hypnotists these days all over the place that can take you into past lives and future lives, however the future has multiple possibilities, but you are right overall in the main part of your thinking. There must be some sort of major frame work for us to exist as we do. The beginning and the end are written in something far beyond the hardness of stone! Not one life, but the beginning of realization or self awarness and the culmination of your multiple lives. In between the beginning and the end their are multiple possibilities for your life. If you can't see that some choices you make don't alter things, well then what can you see? Alot of choice is predictable and culminative yes, but their is real creating going on here!!! No I'm not a religious person at all but I assure you that understanding a higher power is essential for understanding who you really are and what you are really apart of

that was deep. has your future been written already? yes and no. there is this new theory out about an infinate number of universes out there where for every decision you make all possible outcomes happen for that decision...weird i know. i wish i could explain it better but if your interested go to the movie store and get the semi-documentry What the Bleep do you Know. i watched this and wow it was an eye opener. it doesn't go into time travel but it'll lead you into believing more that time travel is possible. if you want time travel then google john titor. he was a "time traveller" from 2036. he gives photos of his time machine and its operating guide, as well as diagrams for how it works. I found the info on him very interesting. just red some of his story for 5 mins and you'll be hooked

What you say may be true but only if your future has happened already. Futures and pasts do not exist if they have not passed in time. They must be on the time line to exist. This is my reasoning of course and I do not believe that the time line is circular although it may become circular at some point. Maybe if we are able to cause it to be circular that would allow us to time travel.

Every one has a chance to change their future.I feel our future is predestined, but we can change the outcome of each situation we encounter. And if you believe in reincarnate(I don't),then if you can see into your past, then logically people in the future can see their past as well.Or if you feel you are someone from the past, then the same could be true for the people in the future.Maybe they could believe that they are you incarnated.

I fail to believe there is any real hope for "time travel" in the scientific sense. I believe it is impossible to at least go back, because what do you go "back" to?
If I tear down a building, and build an entirely different structure on the same ground, you cannot not go back to the original building. The same logic would dictate you cannot go forward to something that isn't there.
Just my hypothesis :)

I've always thought of myself as a deep thinking and someone who needs to analyze everything. But I believe that you remember the past not because of some predestination, but because you've already lived it....its the past. And anyone that you remember in your past just means that its also their past. I agree that we are only a point in history, but not that's its already determined to have an outcome, but for us to determine and change as we approach everyday. I can choose to go the same direction everyday as I always do. Or I can choose another direction to travel. We determine our destiny and future. As humans, we know there are choices and decisions. If there wasn't then I would have to wonder why we have the ability to think and choose. We would then be more like robots and function daily as an already set schedule, set by Simone else. So who? I don't believe that someone else is remembering me as their past, because I've only lived a number of days and I would have to remember them as well, which would still make them my past. There is one thing I do agree on though...It IS my life..and my future as I choose it to be.....or not to be.
Great Question !!!!! Thanks

Even if my future is predetermined, I still think all the fun from life comes from experiencing how you get to that predetermined future. I mean, I guess I'm thankful that I don't know what my future holds. It seems like it would spoil the fun. So, horray for living in the present.
