Only 11 states view common law marriage as a marriage. Arkansas doesn't seem to be one of them. I think the average might be 7 years.

Being legally married means doing a ceremony and signing names on a marriage certificate, in other words there's a record of it. Other than that, its not legal. Common law marriages are not recognized as being legal in Arkansas. What you guys have is just that a common law relationship, if you want to make things legal then get married legally.

If you have a checking account, or purchased any large items in both of your names then you are. If you have every introduced each other as your husband or wife then you are. Plus, my friend who lives in Arkansas, found out he was common law married after one year. Hope that was helpful, just check with the local district attorney he will set the record straight.

No. There is no "magic" number of years, and not all states recognize common law marriage, anyway. Arkansas does not recoginze common law marriage at all.

as you can see when you look at this link, your state is not included in the 11 states allowing common law marriage. If you still think it dose; you can always ask some one down at the courthouse in your town.
