While my mother was married to Antonio, he was the beneficiary of her Openhiemer fund. They separated after he was released from Federal prison. He changed his name and reemerged. He died under this name, doctor who cared for him knows that he died under the alias. Won't give any information confidentiality. My mother believed that her children were going to get this money. Can anyone give me some help? Told you it was tough, but it's the truth. Have you ever had one of those days?? Well I'm having one of those lives. I didn't know where to put this.

A lawyer can get a court order to unseal the medical record. Barring that, wait 7 years and have the stepdad legally declared dead in absentia.

Well. This sounds like a tough one for YOU. Regardless of the name change, Your Mother left her estate to her Husband Antonio. Separation is NOT Divorce. And even if it was a Divorce legally, she would have still needed to change her Will. So... when Mom died all would go to her Separated Husband 'Antonio'. When he died whatever is left there would be part of his Estate that would go to whomever he chose in HIS will. If he did NOT have a will, then the state would disperse the money through the Probate process.

Point here? You will need to hire the services of an Attorney that specializes in Estate work. Good Luck!

This is a good experience to use to remind EVERYONE to get a WILL made and keep it updated whenever there is a big change in your life!

If your mother wanted her children to be beneficiaries of the fund it would say so somewhere. Make sure of that. Call Openheimer or the financial advisor who set up the investment. I can't believe that she'd let him be the ONLY beneficiary especially after the breakup.

I agree with the others. You need an estate attorney.Good Luck
