"Dawn of the Dead" (1978) is the best from a contemporary dramatic view, but FAVORITE, nothing beats "Shaun of the Dead". (I especially like the scene where they're beating the reanimated pub owner to the choreography of Queen's "Don't Stop Me Now".)

I have not seen much of western zombie movie, but I like Resident Evil, because I like the game and the girls so much.
For eastern zombie movies, made by Hong Kong in the 80s, most of them are okay.
