I live in Spain and the apartment block I live in everyone is so happy to see you and pass the time of day. You would probably be seen as rude if you didn't´t.
Culture has a lot to do with it, I think.

Because today we are suspicious about everyone, even our own brothers and sisters.
This is the modern world is doing with people.

The forced ads and scams of witch you have to be suspicious about...invoked the suspicion in us. What if it's a scam?, what if he want's to take something from me?, what if he'll hurt me?, is this good for me?, they just want my money...
This is what commerce, money and wealth gives in return. Nobody has confidence in the person next to him.
No person is truly happy these days, the much stress and rush erases the inner beauty. So that's why a smile is not a simple smile anymore...there's always something else too.
And sadly this affects sexuality too.

Hope this helps!

In other countries, where the curse of suspicion hasn't reached yet, it is still possible for a man to smile at a pretty girl and recieve a friendly smile back. Nothing suspicious in that, but don't try it in the UK.

It's also a sign of approval, of good feelings.
It's an invitation to get closer, to seek what's behind the smile. Can the smile be trusted and so forth. A smile can be backed up with good intent and it can also be a mask for bad intent.

It's the other way around as well. If a woman talks to you and she's just being polite, then you all think she is coming on to you. Even other women can think that of other women. It gets to the point that males and females end up avoiding each other. With females wearing wedding rings when they're not married to ensure they won't be chatted up.

I know, it's pretty sad, isn't it? It's nice when people smile and flirt a little, but the fact that it doesn't have to mean a come-on just doesn't sink in to many. Just because someone compliments you, doesn't mean you have to follow through. Exercise a bit of self-control, people!

I think because sex is everywhere much more nowadays, you can hardly escap the TV shows, advertising, products, magazines and films without thinking "should I be like that" hence eveyone feels the need to go round and "pull" when they go out.
