in front of everyone. He said being on CPT is not acceptable. Should I report him to corporate or chalk it up to him having a bad day and move on? CPT is short for Colored People's Time, meaning lateness. I wouldn't normally think he's racist because his wife is black.

It probably was not the best way to handle the situation. Like you said, he may have been having a bad day if he is not normally so confrontational. Before you jump to say he is racist ask yourself if you would think that it was inappropriate for your boss to say the same thing to you if he were a black man. Please don't jump to conclusions of racism just because there is a color difference. Keep in mind that remarks that are derogitory can come from anyone, even if they are the same race. Sometimes they are not meant to be racist. I think a lot of times people jump too quickly into labeling someone racist and when they do that are they not just the same as that person? Labeling someone by what they look like or dress like or their position, etc. is not right.

Uncomfortable position. You have two choices and I believe you would best know the response:
1. Show your boss an accident report and hopefully he will accept his comments as rude and uncalled for and will apoligize to you.
2. Report you boss.

The problem is if your boss doesn't get fired from option number two there will probably be some resentment from him. Most times when individuals are confronted with mistakes they own up to them and take responsibility. Your boss because he has an african-american wife doesn't sound like a racist but might have been having a bad day. It still gives no right for that type of comment. Hopefully you can both work past this because both of you need eachother to advance your careers.

No boss has a right to yell at an employee. Or make racist remarks. Report him.

I don't know if he's necessarily RACIST but the remark was definitely inappropriate and not just because it was in front of everyone. I wouldn't report him, but I WOULD tell him that you found his comment insulting. Remind him that you have a legitimate excuse and that he trivialized it, which is unfair.

Report him, whether his wife is black or not has no bearing. It was a racist remark & would be inexcusable in most of corporate America.

I would contact document the incident and contact your HR Dept. If that does not prove successful, file a complaint with the EEOC.
