That depends on if they are talking about my appearance or my mannerisms. Obviously I wouldn't want anyone to think I look 3 years older than I am.
Generally, I prefer to be thought of as younger, because I like to think of myself as not only looking younger, but having the carefree mannerisms typically associated with someone younger. I find enjoyment in things that a lot of people 'my age' never would, and I consider that a very good thing.
Young at heart, all the way, over mature and dull, any day ;)
(of course, you need to be mature with some important things, which I am).

I guess it depends on how the statement is presented. By the time I was 21 I had three children (this will flow into an answer to the question, I promise). By the time I was 24 they were 6, 5, and 3 1/2. Up until I was 25 people would assume I was the babysitter, when I asked why they thought that they would tell me because I couldn't be more than 16. At the time I found this to be very insulting but now I would find it to be a compliment.

When I was between 18 and 25, it was a compliment to be considered older and a insult to be considered younger.. When I hit 30, I did not want to even think about it, either way. Now that I am coming up on 50, it's an insult to be older, and a compliment to be younger. Go figure!

I'm 42 so younger is better at this point. When I was under 20, I always wanted people to think I was older, therefore, more of a man. Kinda silly huh?

I'm 49 and I've had women tell me that I look ten yrs younger. And yeah, thats a very nice compliment. I think women in general like to be told that they look younger. Its like when you try to guess a womans age and you guess older, they dont seem to like that much, doh!

I'm old enough where I couldn't care less either way. I know how old I am in my head, and that's enough for me. What a person doesn't realize when they're younger is that "real" age has very little to do with "psychological" age.

BOTH. If they think I'm older, then I feel they're saying I'm mature and interesting to talk with. If they think I'm younger, I feel they're referring to my energy and physical appearance.
It's all about the perspective. *smile*
