Why ocean water has color?

If water is transparent then how come oceans are blue and somtime green?

Oceans (bodies of water) get most of their color from the impurities/particles in them. Think of a muddy river. Green oceans are due to the blue/green bacteria and plankton that live in them. Deep blue oceans are typically clear water but the ocean bottom is so deep that it appears dark cause no light is coming back up from it. Light blue oceans are typically shallow (think Bahamas) and pretty clean. The reason they are blue is due to refraction. This is the slight affect that water has on light as it bounces off it's molecules...also the same reason the sky is blue.

ps. "Because God made it so"...hmm...isn't that like saying, I don't want to know. Think about it.

Blue because water reflects blue lights and green because algae reflects green and sometimes brown light. The rest of the colors are absorbed. White light contains all colors of the rainbow.

because it depends on the type of bottom, and how deep it is, and the way the sun reflects into the water, it works just like how a rainbow works. The same thing works on your eye color, it's all how the light mixes it up.
