NO
There should not have been the division. Hindus and muslims can live in one nation.Example is INDIA where number of muslims are more than whole of muslims in pakistan.India is one country where all religions are given due respects. Indian constitution is the evidence of this.People of both these nations have good relations but ithese are the politicians who divided the nations.Jinnah was intelligent but was power hungry .This is a history.Gandhi who was soft hearted had to yield before Jinnah's demand of power. Now is the time still when India and Pakistan can become one country. This is possible only if better sense prevails over the politicians.Muslims in India feel more comfortable and they know that they are in a more prosperous nation.God bless both India and Pakistan.

He didn't give it. Watch gandhi by sir richard attenborough.
Jinnah liased with the british and said to them that he did not want the oppression by the british replaced by the hindu's. When the prime minister of britain (wilson i think)sits down at the table with gandhi , jinnah and other leaders, he concedes that britain must leave india, BUT i emphasis a big but, There is a muslim india and a hindu india. Both of these must be catered for, not just one he said.
The divide happened to the east and the west. West became Pakistan, taking punjab land up to Amritsar and there was land to the east named east pakistan which is now called Bangladesh.
So in summary, it wasn't Gandhi, it was the British.
Think about it, why would a man who wanted to unite his people, leave them divided at the end. He wouldn't. Defeats his purpose.
Great topic. Cheers

I didn't realise that some people think that India belonged to Ghandi (or Jinnah).
"India" only existed as a unified entity because it was a British administrative colony. Before that, there were a set of independant states with shifting alliances that the british exploited.

no he should have given more power to jinnah
jinnah suggested seperate country for muslims only because he was undermined by nehru and gandhi in Congress Party
if he would have been given more power, he would have helped the other leaders build a strong and united india....
nothing has been achieved by seperating the nation... the last 60 years are the proof of that...
