I can't believe anyone would say that the death was "shocking". The guy worked with dangerous animals for a living and he knew the risks involved and stated that on numerous occasions on his show.

The death was truly sad for several reasons. First and foremost, he left behind a wife, 2 kids, and other family. Second, he was young. Third, he seemed like a genuine guy. The type of guy who makes millions a year yet treats the poop collector at the zoo exactly the same as the executives at Discovery.

We need more guys like him in this world of fakes.

It's truly sad.
I can honestly say that myself and my family learned more about the animal kingdom from him than we would have ever known on our own. He showed us the gentler side of animals, as well as the misconceptions we hold about them.
He died doing what he loved to do, but he leaves a family without a husband or father, and a world with one less teacher.
He will truly, truly be missed, and he leaves boots that will be incredibly hard to fill.

I was shocked! Steve was an awesome guy. And to think of all the crazy things he's fooled with i.e crocs, snakes...it was a stingray that killed him! My thoughts and prayers go out to his family and friends.

I think he had a really good life, doing what he does best. However with the events of the way he died, removing the Barb from his chest before dying was tragic. R.I.P

It schoked me when they said that he was dead because of the sting ray. I watched him on the discovery channel every chance I get to wacth tv. He did things with animals most humans dream of doing any day. He will be truely missed by all.

It's sad, but it seems to have taken over the news. I'm sure they'll broadcast his funeral in a few days too. I feel sorry for his wife and kids.
