You have been play for fools who will never be smart enough to organize against doing something about it, is this assumption correct? The ruling class or top 1% has 40% of the wealth!

Because (like responder "Fresh Princess") people in this country tend to vote their dreams, not their reality. It's easy to get people to vote against their own best interests if they all think one day they *too* will be at the top, and when they get there they want the odds in their favor. This despite evidence that 98 percent of US citizens will remain in the socio-economic status into which they were born. Ninety eight percent is higher than in India where they have an official caste system.

This situation is complicated and is difficult to overcome, in part because it is our strength as well as our weakness. The American brand of capitalism requires us to be dreamers, so that we consume. It also, in alot of ways, has provided alot of innovation, (like the Internet) and competition between manufacturers and/or suppliers has driven markets. It's not a one-way system; consumers have made an impact in some cases, for example Nike and their sweatshops. We are not powerless, we just don't see the different strands of the knot. It's hard for us to separate the positives from economic constructs which do the average worker harm. And there are a lot of them!

It IS possible to redistribute wealth by re-aligning the gov't. Most US citizens are unaware of the massive subsidies provided to Big Business, and part of that can be blamed on media coverage. Part of it, yes, is our own laziness. And until more people take the time to understand just how hard we're getting screwed, it won't change. But we'll have cool electronic gadgets and sports gear that the rest of the world envies.

It happens everywhere, not only USA. American people are not fools. They probably have more fun in their spare time than any other country....In the Philippines, Chinese make up 3% of the population, but control 70% of the economy. I would imagine the same goes in Russia now with immense wealth held in a few hands. Unless you are a devout communist, you are part of this system also. Spend some time and take some ESL classes.

I know that. Most americans would rather bury their heads in the sand and not see.

It's not just the US either. In Mexico something like 7 families own 98% of Mexico.

The only way it will stop is with a revolution, but the non-wealthy of us must get pissed off enough to fight. As it is everyone's too complacent

So what do you want to do about it? You wanna take from the rich and give to the poor? I think the only way to solve this problem is to become one of the people in the top 1%.
