Richard Nixon to JFK in 1961. And I am from England and did not use the internet or any reference work to find the answer.
I wonder - if we asked a similar question about Britain, how many Americans would get it right ....................

Wasn't that Truman? The papers were printed overnite before the actual results and reported Dewey as the winner. So, Truman lost in the media first. Does that count?
