yes -- any animal which has an umbilical cord to receive nourishment from the mother before birth will have a bellybutton. thus all mammals (including hippos) have bellybuttons. reptiles, fish, birds and invertebrates do not have bellybuttons.

I think you must have read the " Belly Button Book (Boynton on Board S.)"! Sounds great even if I'd never heard of it until I searched your question...hippos have belly buttons and so do all mammals That's because of how they're born...remember that humans are mammals too and the umbilical cord, when cut, becomes a belly button. I imagine that's why marsupials don't have one, since they crawl out of their parent and into a pouch...can't see the need for a belly button there!

Marsupials have belly buttons. All mammals have belly buttons. Even if you were hatched, you would have a belly button. Embryos receive nutrients thru an umbilicus. Even tho the yoke sac is completely absorbed, there is a faint belly button. So almost every mammal and animal/ reptile has a belly button. Plants and insects don't. Fish do.
