I'm going to start supply teaching (primary), just waiting on the wretched CRB, any advice on how I can prepare, what I should take etc would be gratefully received! Thank you!

You will be fine, primary school kids are still innocent so dont worry, I work with secondary school boys. Now thats a killer! Just make sure you have a lesson plan, but if you are a supply, the main teacher should have one planned out for you. As a supply you are only there to supervise the kids when the teacher is absent. Just be calm and friendly and to make them like you get them to do three quarters of the work and for the end of the lesson play a game with them, well the games will depend on how old they are. If they are the older kids you can play the "around the world" game where you pair them up and 2 pairs compete against each other. You ask them questions (could be mathematical or science related or even spelling) and whichever pair gives you the correct answer first will have to compete with the next pair. It may sound boring but its actually fun when you get into it.
On the other hand if they are much younger, maybe do things like singing or just let them play on their own.
Im sure you'll have a great time with them, good luck!

How can you prepare for teaching primary kids?
1. Learn to have really thick skin.
2. Be sure you have a plan.
3. I assume you are fit therefore it would not be an issue because they will drain you mentally and physically.
4. Have 4 back up plans if anything goes wrong.
5. Make sure you have covered how to disarm a mental time bomb... need i proof for this reason... primary kids are just hyper...
6. Make sure you know what you are going to teach.

Hope this helps you. I visited a primary school for one of my projects in second year architecture... I had to design a theoretical room for primary education kids...

Good luck with your job.
