There can be two types of trwisted pair cables
1.Unshielded Twisted Pair (UTP) Cable
2.Shielded Twisted Pair (STP) Cable

Unshielded Twisted Pair (UTP) Cable
The quality of UTP may vary from telephone-grade wire to extremely high-speed cable. The cable has four pairs of wires inside the jacket. Each pair is twisted with a different number of twists per inch to help eliminate interference from adjacent pairs and other electrical devices. The tighter the twisting, the higher the supported transmission rate and the greater the cost per foot. The EIA/TIA (Electronic Industry Association/Telecommunication Industry Association) has established standards of UTP and rated five categories of wire.

Shielded Twisted Pair (STP) Cable
A disadvantage of UTP is that it may be susceptible to radio and electrical frequency interference. Shielded twisted pair (STP) is suitable for environments with electrical interference; however, the extra shielding can make the cables quite bulky. Shielded twisted pair is often used on networks using Token Ring topology

Twisted pair cable is used to transfer data in Computer transmission as well as in other data transmissions. It comprises of generally 2 wires, in other cases it may be more than 2. These wires are combines together by giving round twists so as to fix together.
These type of cables are the cheapest ones. Bur are prone to outer disturbance, like sound, vibrations, climatic effects, etc, which easily erode its quality of transmission and adds errors, disturbance, inaccuracy in the data being transferred.

twisted pair cables are used as a transmission media for network. a twisted pair may consist of 8 wires twisted in pars to form 4 wires. they also have spercific color codings. they are used to connect networks , and are contained in CAT5, CAT5E, they are twisted to reduce noice and unwanted outside signals from interfering with the internal bits.
