Sex is said to be a natural phenomenon and actually it is. Even the non-human animals and birds can have it. No one has to teach anybody to have sex. Then, why are there so many books about it?

Because, sex is "natural" for procreation.

People buy books to learn how to MAKE LOVE not have sex and reproduce.

Sex is natural.. Making love takes practice. Humans are physical and emotional beings and want to be able to feel pleasure instead of just doing it to procreate like animals do.

I have only looked at one or two 'how too' books about sex, mostly out of curiosity, I don't think it's so much the idea of how to have sex, but more about adding some spice and get us to open up to our mates and find more things in the sex library that turn us on. It is a natural thing and anyone or everything (mateable) can do it. But there are those that don't know any further than climb on top, do the deed, and thats it. It's not that the sex isn't good, just boring and repetitive. I think this is where experience or a lack of it comes into play, we would rather ditch someone that doesn't know how to be spontaneous and exciting as opposed to talk and show them what we want that is more pleasing and satisfying. My husband might as well have been a virgin when we met, he had only had 3 one time experiences and they taught him nothing. We have been together 6 years now, and he tells me "If I knew then what I knew now, well.... it's probably better that I didn't know what I was doing then." It's not that people don't know how to have sex just that they don't know all the things you can do and fun you can have with it.

Because sex isn't natural. Making love is natural. Sex was made for reproduction purposes, we are the only species that has sex for fun. There are a million generations of women and men who have not been satisfied sexually. Why do people write books? To educate others on a subject they may not know as well as they would like to. For those who are not satisfied in the bedroom a book may help in that area. For those of us who do not watch porno, there are things we just don't know unless we are told. If you go your entire life with only one sexual partner you are less likely to ever experience different styles, so a book may help you achieve a variety of bedroom activities. Keep in mind too, that if the books were not helpful, they would not be being sold, people would not be buying them.

Sex or love-making? Anyone can have sex -- it's instinct. You can get off with a battery-powered stick --there is no art in that. Making love is hard work and a hell of a lot fun! The books (which are mostly crap!) are suppose to help give you ideas on techniques to drive your lover wild. Usually helpful for the less innovative. The best one is Satisfaction by Kim Cattrall and Mark Levinson.

Because everyone wants to know what other people have tried that they haven't thought of yet. In fact the "sex bible", The Kama Sutra was written and tried more than a hundred years ago. It's not really a matter of teaching, but of experimenting different things. Sex books can be very interesting and fun.

Because people are fascinated by it. Bigger, better, more...the typical consumer mentality and sex books are just cashing in on it. Besides no one really teaches us to have sex but we've been taught how to eat, read, study, potty training etc.

Because even though it used to be a big no no to talk about and read about people are just fascinated with the idea of doing it and knowing how to do it better.

thats a good point. I guess in our culture we sensationalize it and now it's built up into something you have to be the best at, something you have to "win" and live up to what we see in movies allthe time
Those books are there to try and make this a reality..when really..it's just the motion of the ocean my friend :)
