Given his high risk career, I personally thought it would be an animal related injury (not a stingray though). He was extremely talented in what he did and made many people more aware of these animals that are considered dangerous. I am sad at his passing and for his family but he did go out doing something he loved and I think if one could chose a way to die, going out doing something you love isn't that bad. I love the ocean but there are dangers and being aware of them is the key to safety.
He is fondly remembered.

I never gave it much thought before, but to be honest, looking back, I guess I wouldn't think of it being a croc. I certainly didn't think it would be a stingray, either. But if you think about it, he's been handling crocs all his life and he's comfortable around them, and he knows what to expect. I think maybe I guessed it would have been another land animal, though. Not a stingray.

But after what his manager said, it really does make sense. His manager said that they always said it would be in the ocean, because on land he's quick and agile, but in the ocean, there's another element. It really does make sense looking back.

It's so sad - no matter how you look at it. I feel so bad for his wife and kids.

You have to realize that when people choose to push the envelope on mortality every day of their lives, then their number is more likely to come up than not! At least he died the way he lived. RIP Steve!

And no, I don't fear the ocean because of what happened. Stingrays are docile and this was a freak accident. But I do respect any place (ocean, jungle, whatever) where I am no longer on the top of the food chain!

Most likely he should have died from natural causes. I think the probability of dying from a croc was much greater than that of a stingray. This was such a freak accident. The newspaper stated he pulled the barb out of his chest and then went unconscious. It makes me wonder if he'd left the impaled object in place, would he have lived.? So sad, prayers to Terri, Bindi Sue , and Bob/

It is truly a sad passing. With only 3 people in the last 100 years dying from a sting like that, it was his time to go to glory. Now he lies with the lions in heaven. I drowned when I was 12 in the ocean and was resuscitated, and I do not fear the ocean. Actually, I plan on being cremated and returned to the ocean when I die.

If some say confident, others will counter without. This has been hotly debated besides the undeniable fact that i'm particular i don't understand why. he's long previous and that's the base line. does not relatively matter quantity if he lived for seconds or minutes after the mishap. Peace to his kin. TIme to flow on.

of course everyone thought if he went, it would be by the jaws of a croc! Freak accident - however, when you surround yourself with dangerous animals (although a stingray isn't exactly dangerous) you are going to get bit....or stung.

Although I should not say this. Since Steve was working with such dangerous animals it would have been alomost inevitable that someting sooner or later would have either injured him for life or take his life. I really feel for the person, but like everybody else says, he died doing what he does best. R.I.P
