I don't enjoy the studio albums all that much.My all time favorite albums are Europe 72,has the best version of Morning Dew,my very favorite dead tune.I also like Mars Hotel.I have been spoiled by seeing them live too many times,the studio albums just don't do much for me.

Wake of the Flood. You have Mississippi 1/2 step, Row Jimmy, Stella Blue, Eyes, WRS and Here Comes Sunshine (plus a few others) on the track list. The major reason for this album being my favorite is that it was the first studio album released by the dead on their own recording label, after ditchiing Warner Brothers.
A close second would be Blues for Allah, with Help>Slip>Franklins, Crazy Fingers, and King Solomon's Marbles.

I hardly ever listen to those studio albums, but my favorite studio album is American Beauty. I actually like those songs better in the studio than live. That's the one studio album that I do sometimes feel a need to listen to. I don't want to sound corny, BUT if music has healing powers (and it does), that's one album that definitely does, for me.
I was listening to the Dead for a few years (live recordings) before I was unfortunate enough to acquire the Terrapin Station studio album. I was really used to hearing those great songs live. When I heard the studio versions, I almost barfed. No disrespect for the people who like it.
Blue For Allah was the first music that turned me onto the Dead. I borrowed it from a friend, and listened to it three times in a row. I was totally amazed. That album is less like a studio album, and more like an in studio live session. It prepared me for the live stuff. American Beauty is much more fit for studio.

i really love in the dark..i loooove the studio version of victim or the crime cranked up reallllllll loud cuz its soooooooooo freaky and groooooooooovy
and i looooove terrapin station ...i love the version of terrapin
and i like it cuz donna is on it
