wash it
then wash again
then repeat this process
ps- wow... very angry after comment there. If you re-read your question I think you will find that it doesnt mention anything about the fact that you have tried to wash it. It just says you need to get the smell out directly after the game. I thought this was a genuinely dumb question. Obviously not. But how was I or any of the smart arses to know.We are not mind readers.

Honeygirl... Football jerseys are like cast iron skillets. They are better when they're seasoned, and the grass/blood stains are like war medals. Trust me, whomever is wearing the jersey, would rather have it smelling a little funky, than smelling like fabric softener. But, if you're bound and determined to make the jersey Downy fresh; just ask the school, or organization, that provided the jersey, how they clean them after the end of the season. I'm sure the jerseys are clean, and funk free, when they're passed out, at the beginning of each season.

When you wash your jersey, wash in cold water with a little bit of ammonia. That's right ammonia. Your shirt will not smell like ammonia. Sometimes I put a little disfinfect in my wash and till this day I have not ruin any clothes yet. Naturally put fabric softener in your rinse cycle and let your jersey air dry. If you can let it hang outside or put on a hanger to retain its shape.

Why would you want to do that? The stinkier the jersey the better, that way the other players wont want to touch you. Especialy usefull if your on offence
