can i use one from a newer model ,or a differend brand

its a simple coil .just get one you can make fit that has a single wire secondary.(spark plug wire) and a single circuit primary. (pos. and neg.)

If it is a similar coil it should work. You could try eBay and hope that you might find another bike on there. Try advertising in your local paper too. There were a lot of those bikes made and someone in you area has to have one. Probably stored in a barn or something. You can also broaden your seach to motorcycle salvage in your state or area. There is one north of Rochester, Minnesota. You could call the Yamaha dealer there too, he would probably be able to refer you to the salvage yard. They may even have the part you need. I bought a 250 Enduro from them years ago, at that time it was Dieter Marine. They had a good inventory anyway.

Just type in YAMAHA MX250 on your internet explorer and you'll find there lots of places with spare parts,or contact Yamaha or a dealer and they might have something to help you with.
