I do not know what the restrictions are but if you have permission to move around tables and so on. rearrange the room so that it becomes more substantive than prescriptive. what i mean is that create a good sense of community in your class room via different table layouts. Facing a teacher all day in a formal traditional layout is not going to be fun. Try different layouts or ask your friends on what layout the tables should be in.

Had a professor last quarter who gave out extra points or extra work for points towards the end of class. Better believe some of us took advantage of this. Many younger students left not knowing of these opportunities, it showed in their grade

Incentives to perform in a positive manner; like a class trip to a local place. Accentuate the positive.
