Because 95% of rappers have no real talent so they want you to pay attention to all the "bling" and ignore the fact that they suck. The gold is just a diversion.

Because they realize that most of the general public is gullible and down right stupid, so if they put millions of dollars around their neck to look good, ppl will see it, think they are cool, and go into debt buyin their albums and jewelry.
