At first I did not know this about the ban, and I am actively Pro-Life. The ban does not include emergency contraception prior to the ability to detect pregnancy. This means if a woman was raped she could and I would encourage anyone in this situation to do so, to go to a hospital and get a rape hormone that potentially could block ovulation before conception occurs.

With this fact known many who are against the ban for lack of the rape exception should reconsider their position as this is a reasonable solution the creators of the ban wisely left out of it.

Colorado, I agree with you that most women that get pregnant are not so because of rape. Probably less than 1 or 2 percent are due to this reason. Nevertheless this is a major reason people want to keep abortion laws in tact. But if viable alternatives are informed to the public then there is all the less reason not to pass certain Pro-Life laws.

brian2412, again if people were educated as to a first response method to rape no abortions would have to be had making the abortion due to rape arguement moot.

wmcritter, ultimately I agree with you but I do believe options need to be given to rape victims. Wide spread education about emergency contraception could take care of the vast majority of cases.

iknowtruthis..., it seems like you want to start an "uncivil" war over this issue if you do not get your way. So when Pro-Life people try to protect life and you and like minded people do not have the "right" to kill preborn lives anymore, then you want to kill Pro-Lifers to gain back that "freedom" to do so. Hmmmmm, very revealing.

I am adamently PRO LIFE as well.
Abortion is a word that has lost ALL meaning in America and lotts of people STILL dont understand the brutality and violence involved in slaughtering unborn babies.

I personally, as a PRO LIFE advocate, do NOT have a problem with the emergency pill for rape victims, at all.
You said this pill blocks ovulation BEFORE contraception occurs, that is a miracle AND I do not believe interferes with the issue of protecting innocent life...if no life has formed, there is no debate.
I am fairly educated, maybe more than fairly, on abortion and I personally do not have an issue with the emergency pill.
HOWEVER, I would like to point out that the rape issue is BARELY even relevant for debate at all. The liberals love to bring it up. Only .002% of abortions are performed as a result of rape/incest, that means out of the 48 million abortions since ROE vs WADE only 96,000 have been for rape/incest victims, that number is THREE point NINE TWO of every ONE HUNDRED NINETY SIX THOUSAND abortions THIS YEAR will be to assist a woman victimized by rape/incest.
AND another question/point. Is this woman NOT the mother of this child? No matter the way the child was concieved, is SHE not this childs mother? WHY do we make women the agressor against her own child? WHY does the child need to suffer the crime of its father?
I have a YAHOO group called Abortion Must End Now...if you are interested in joining, informal group.

I don't reconsider my opposition to the ban.

It is absolutely horrific to force a woman (who could be as young as 12) to not only endure a rape, but a pregnancy as well. If the woman chooses to go through with the pregnancy, that is one thing. But to force a woman who might not be able to pyschologically handle a pregnancy on top of a rape, well that is just horrific.

There is nothing reasonable about the South Dakota ban. That state belongs in the Middle Ages.

Sad, but typical, that you didnt really get any rational responses.

What's most disturbing are answers like Brian2412. They ignore the fact that abortion kills a human being. A 12 year old having to endure 9 months of pregnancy resulting from a rape is horrible. But far worse is murdering an innocent child and taking their entire life from them. It is not the child's fault how it was conceived, how does it deserve the death penalty?

If you don't believe in abortion, don't GD have one. Take that right away from the rest of us and you will start a very uncivil war. Angry women with matches all across America will turn fundi and Catholic churches into burning monuments to gender repression.
South Dakota should have their star on the American flag replaced by a coat-hanger

People should still have control over their own bodies. If it were men that got pregnant there would be abortion.

Keep your laws off my body.

Red herring. Do you think that most women who are raped get pregnant? They don't. This is liberal tripe.
