If you are good at marketing, then sell yourself. People only want employees that have drive and initiative and you have already shown lack of both. You can't sit back and expect firms to bend over to kiss your feet.

If this is your example of marketing I agree with your assessment that it isn't for you. Start meeting people, find some comapnies and chase them, talk, interview, show them what you have to offer. This really isn't the way to go about it.
