Firstly you have to film inthe industry standard of 16:9 widescreen ration. Cheap camcorders call it widescreen but is really jsut black bars at the top without a ratio change. However, any camcorder DV will look different to a hollywood movie because they use different cameras with a different recording, check out a film like 28 Days Later which was filmed with DV and you'll notice a gritty grainy realism to the picture, this is what DV looks like on the big screen, Hollywood's movie cameras are different.

However, if you want to make a more professional look use a tripod to make your shots less jerky and enable you to pan and tilt. Use an independent microphone rather than the inbuilt camera one and try using some editing software on your computer.

I've discovered Windows movie maker recently. It's pretty nice for beginners like myself. I was just playing around with it. Anyway, there's all the instructions there when you open it up. Hope you do have it on your system. You have to import your home video and add graphics and stuff to it. You can even add credits to the beginning or end.

Close all the doors and windows
Shut the lights and just lean back on ur couch with popcorn.
Also try not to watch the movie with subtitles.
Enjoy!!

i too have the same problem with my handy cam

i would like to suggest go for fluresent lighting all the directions - i mean to have tube lights on two or three walls so that the light spreads uniformly and go for a higher pixel camera and use extra lenses

I know what you mean... home videos look too clean sometimes. Try uploading your home movie to your computer, try various players (some are different), and fiddel with the resolution... then save.
