a hub is the middle that things revolve around, like the middle of a wheel...

...or in computer terms, a hub is a central connection point that other netwoek connection plug into.

A hub is a device used to connect several devices together so they can network with each other. When traffic is sent down the line all devices connected to the hub hear it, a bit like shouting in a room full of people for a particular person, everybody hears it but only the person responds. A Switch on the other hand routes the traffic only to the required destination advice, same as the room but actually going up to the person required and speaking only to them

a hub is a device that connects more then one computer together in a location so all computers can talk with each other , share files , printing, and the internet it allows you to make a network of your computers. i hope that helps

It is called dumb because it does nothing but physically connect the the computers, all the work of setting up and managing the network must be done on the computers themselves. I.E. addresses etc.
