Thanks for doing what most would not.

what scares me about this 'war' is no one seems to openly question the possibility we may be losing it.

In any war it is utterly foolish to assume you cannot lose. This is usually a result of very strong and effective propaganda.

We are in a no lose situation as far as that is concerned. Each time a 'terrorist' in Iraq or anywhere else kills someone, we are told 'look, there is a war - we must continue to fight'. Whenever there isn't a death, we are told 'look we are winning the war'.

But common sense tells us war can never be a win / win situation.

I am not saying we are winning or losing but I do know that I now live in an environment of less liberty and far more fear and suspicion than I did 5 years ago - and more and more people seem to be dying.

So overall? I don't support this war. The reasons given have been totally disingenuous. This is aimed at those that lead and govern us and of course not in any way aimed at the poor sods risking life and limb on a daily basis in pursuit of this fabricated 'war'.

There are very few problems in life that cannot be solved with well placed explosives.

Except for ending slavery, fascism, Nazism, and communism, war has never solved anything.

Give war a chance.

For those who have fought for it, FREEDOM has a flavor the protected will never know.

When in doubt, empty the magazine.

Happiness is a belt fed weapon.

Death smiles at everyone, Soldiers smile back.

It's Gods job to forgive our enemies, it's our job to arrange the meeting.

Peace through superior fire power.

Some people just need killing. That's why God made snipers.

AIRBORNE sniper! You can run, but you die tired.

Give thanks to those who defend this country, for they bear the gift of liberty and pay the price of FREEDOM.

People sleep peaceably in their beds at night only because rough men stand ready to do violence on their behalf.

Another Veteran for peace. One terrorist at a time!

Dearest M.P.,
I want you to know that you are truly appreciated. You, and every other member of the military, are special for many reasons but the fact that you stood up and said "send me" at a time of war speaks volumes as to your character. Becoming a member of the Armed Forces is always a big decision, but to so at a time of war speaks well of a young man or woman who could have easily opted for a safer existence.

As far as the level of ignorance concerning guns and gun laws, SHAUN 1986 is just another example of this ignorance. Consider the source and move on.

Don't ever think that SHAUN 1986 or the kids running around on some collage campuses protesting and whining have ANYTHING on you! You are privileged to have the one advantage that all covet... You know about the goings on in Iraq. You don't have to guess or base an opinion on some bespectacled so called "expert", or Hollywood "professional pretender" who defines danger as crossing the street, leaving campus, or having a decaf latte instead of a regular. Your head will not be filled with the empty theory of the old pathetic slackers who teach on many campuses... the ones who ran to Canada, or hid out in Europe, while I, and many other Veterans just like me, put it all on the line in a place called Vietnam. The snide arrogant crowd who spend the day blaming America for every wrong in the world before going home to sleep at night under the blanket of freedom provided by better men.

Don't let SHAUN 1986 or the pessimistic talking heads, high browed newspaper writers, Hollywood idiots, or any other faction of the "blame America first" crowd get you down! I'm speaking of the "latte biscotti crowd". They are simple background chatter men... and will always exist on the periphery of any endeavor that requires selfless service or loyalty. They are not worthy of your concern and truth be told - in the pit of their cowardly hearts - they wish they could be like you.

I for one will never... ever... apologize for being an American and don't you ever feel that you have to. We're not perfect but I can think of no place better. We didn't become the great country that we are by accident... we earned it! - And while were at it - we kept, and continue to keep, a large portion of the world free.
American blood and sacrifice is an indisputable part of the world equation. More people in this world are trying to come to our shores than any other country. We remain the beacon of hope for many, and God willing, it will always be so.

We're number 1...don't apologize for it - be damn proud!

Sincerely,
Tim Flanigan.
U.S. Army Veteran.

God Bless our Troops and God Bless America!

Hey, hre in Canada nobody really thinks it was a good idea for GWB the dimwit to invade Iraq.

Having said that, if you are a soldier doing a job and doing your best, you have nothing to be ashamed about and everyone will respect you. I think most people recognize that there are always a few bad eggs in the news, but the majority of troops are doing their best in a difficult spot.

However, don't run for politics. You'll probably get smeared like Kerry - They'll say about you "Oh, he couldn't have been in Iraq 3 times, our rules only allowed 2 rotations." "He couldn't have been hit by shrapnel, our rules said all soldiers got flack jackets." "He couldn't have been injured by insurgents, he was in an M1 tank." You'll lose the election to Jenna Bush once she's sober...

I don't understand why so many people are short sighted. Saddam Hussien was a terrible dictator who tortured, imprisoned, and murdered his own people. Whatever you may think of the human rights violations carried out by our forces at Abu Ghraib prison, they pale in comparison to the atrocities committed there by Saddam's forces. The US Army doesn't murder large numbers of prisoners because of overcrowding, but Saddam did. I've seen the rooms there with hooks in the ceiling to hang people from and torture. I've seen the hanging rooms with trap doors in the floor. I was there in 2003 as an MP team leader, and I'm proud of my service. I try to keep things simple: We overthrew a horrible dictator that had been abusing his own people for decades. All the other issues attached to that very simple accomplishment overshadows the positive things we have done there. As a side note, can you provide more info about you being an MP? Nothing specific, for security reasons, but I've never heard any MP's refer to themselves as a "Military Police officer", unless you mean you're a commissioned officer.

Shaun is probably thinking of the illegal street purchases of guns. Technically, when you call someone stupid, think about your own situation. Why are you in Iraq? What have you learned by it? How do you think you will adjust, once you are discharged (unless this a career choice)?
Obviously, I do not support the war and its purported U.S. colonialists laws.
It is true, each state has its own firearms registration requirements (NJ is one with strict laws).

I'm just wondering why you joined the service anyway if you don't agree with fighting a war when called upon? But anyway, Yea that guy is a moran!!, there a people buying guns all the time from private owners without permits, If people want to stop that sort of thing they'll have to support the people that are trying to get the law pasted that the only way you can buy a gun is with a permit and backround check.

1. Your question is not appropriate to be coming from a US Army officer!
2. What has your additional information got to do with the question?
3. I'm having trouble believing that you are a Army officer or even serving in the US Military!
