Never be the last to leave... Making coffee, clearing up, switching off the music, getting ready for bed, loading the dishwasher etc = all good signs the hosts want you to leave.

Or in Tony Blairs case reading the newspapers, watching the news, listening to public opinion, listening to his own party members = all good signs that its time to leave

I never in my life left a party in full swing, altho I do not stay long enough to clear up!! Tony Blair is holding on for all he is worth, and will eventually be thrown out of the party.

I sometimes outstay my welcome but normally because people get tired and close the party down, without thought for the guests, but i never go back and will tell them how thoughtless they were and dont expect guests next time!!

It is time to leave when I'm too drunk to realize that I have my hand down my husband's pants in front of everybody. If I'm not drinking then I leave either when I'm done helping clean up or the host is starting to get tired.

hum, if the party is dull i normally fall asleep and that's rude. If the party is good it doesn't end till you go to breakfast the next day.

as long as you are not asked to switch off the lights on your way out you have not outstayed your welcome
