2) A scientist suggests that the acid should be neutralised with an excess of sodium hydroxide. This suggestion is partly correct but unwise.
(i) What will be formed when acid is neutralised as suggested?

(ii) Why is this an unwise suggestion?

Use a blue litmus paper, if it turns red, it means there is acid.

ok you can use litmus paper if the acid was still there, the paper should turn a color indicated on the label fi tis an acid, usually red if it's acidic, adn blue if it's a base.

You can also see if there are any marks/discoloratoins on the ground that indicate burns from severe acid.

hope this helps!

Simply take a blue litmus paper - it has a characteristic property of chaging from blue to red if it comes in contact with an acid.

You wouldn't need to test as you know it is already there, but if you still need to do a test, use litmus paper - it indicates the pH to tell you whether or not you have an acid or a base.

You wouldn't do the testing at all. You'd call the local fire department, which would then send out it's Hazardous Materials team to do crowd control, decontamination, testing, and cleanup.
