The water is needed to keep the earth balanced.(not like weight balanced) We are the only planet with SEASONS.The water is what was left over from the GREAT FLOOD.(Noah,ect).Since ALL forms of life require water,(humans are 86% H2o)and for the existence all weather, the water helps maintain and control our earthly temps.Only 20% of the earth has drinkable.AND most of that is "locked up" in Iceland's (Greenland) glaciers.

As far as what we know (from the Bible) water has always existed,we just do not know what %.The Earth was covered completely by water in Noah's time and it took 500 years for it to completely recede. There has been extensive research to seek out the possibility of life on other planets. Some planets are nothing but frozen hydrogen which is 50% of water ingredient. The absence of OXYGEN is what is needed to sub-stain life.

Water is a life giving and sustaining element. The presence of condensed water on a planet is an indication of its ability to contain life forms.

You can also notice that water is made up os two essential chemical elements; hydrogen and oxygen. Oxygen sustains animal life while in conbination with carbon as carbon dioxide sustains plant life. Most planets have hydrogen gas but in fiery or frozen forms and may have water but only in vapour form if at all.

Thus the presence of water in liquid form indicates that the temperature is right and the necessary elements are present to sustain you and I. Cheers.

The whole earth was covered in water in one point in time until God said let there be land and I guess he figured that 30% was the right amount.
