No, its doesnt infact it does most of its damage when tthey are trying to get the barb out. Ripping the insides,

I'm not sure about this but with Steve Irwin's death, they said that the video showed him pulling the barb out of his chest. They've been showing barbs all morning so I'm thinking that it must detach.

Yes and the larger bull rays can have barbs 16 inches long!

No it doesn't. Sting ray barb is poisonous but its poison is barely lethal., though highly painful. The fact that it struck Steve Irwine in the chest and pierced his heart is the cause of his death.
