The best answer is IT DEPENDS.
You can't say everything/nothing is random, cause both sides provided good evidence to back their arguements. Sure, the lottery is random, but a seed growing up to be a tree is not random, it's just the laws of the nature. What we have to do is try to find patterns where we can identify laws and eliminate the possibility of random. But in some cases, we just can't, so we have to admit that some things are just random.

Almost anything is random. There is little you can control in your life. The rest comes to you, in more o less random way.
Although Einstein says "God does not play dice with the universe."
But we do not know the exact rules of things

No. Nothing is random. Everything is ordered. It's simply too complex for our simple minds to comprehend, which is why we still insist on carbon fuel dependence even though we know it's not good for us. We really don't understand the patterns that are already set in place around us. If we did it actually might not be such a good thing. It might result in widespread panic, apathy, faithlessness and lawlessness when we realize the human species is not at the center of the universe. We like to believe in things like coincidence, serendipity and luck when there really are no such things. It just makes us feel good to think so. They are romantic notions. We are so limited in our thinking that we cannot get our minds around anything that is not concrete or explained to us by scientists. And even when our scientists do explain to us something we don't like, something that inconveniences us, we balk at them and call them crack heads. Some scientists do have a little better understanding of the patterns of which we are unaware. It is their job to know these things, like creation theories and chaos theory and the laws of probability and stuff like that. Even our lack of awareness and willful ignorance is accounted for.

Generally nothing is random our crazy view of the world revolves around cause and effect, even the roll of a dice can be predicted from the angle and weight and speed in-which it is thrown (Casino's never lose) sadly everything does happen for a reason perhaps we cannot understand all the reasons but it's our law.
