At my cousins wedding back n July, I was talking to an old friend of my sisters. I asked her where she worked & I told her that I would be looking 4 work soon. She told me that she worked at a furniture company as a dispatcher & that by the fall they should be hiring for another dispatcher position. So mid August closer to fall I took in my resume & a coverletter saying that she mentioned to me about the possible job opening, my interest in working there & that I was submitting my resume for their review. Well, now I notice that they ARE hiring but thru an Employment Agency which I have never had any luck with because their database of potential employees is so huge, last 5 yrs I have seriously never had any interviews or calls. Since I had a heads up about this job opening & have a contact I would think that my chances would be good. Should I call them and if so what should I say? I really really really need this job, any advice would be appreciated. What should I do. Thanx n advance!

If they're using an agency, you need to go through the agency. But tell the agency that you specifically would like to be sent out for this job and tell your cousin to mention that someone she knows would be really good applied. Between those 2 things, you should get your foot in the door.
I can't imagine that an agency has you on the books for 5 yrs and have never sent you out. Are you sure they have you on the rolls? It's not in the agency's best interests to not try to place people! Make an appointment to find out if you're really on their list. If you are, ask the reason for never getting sent out. Maybe you're lacking something that is key for the positions they fill or they could help you rework your resume. You should follow through with them to get some answers, and results!

Hi. Wow. I know this is important to you so here is my best advice. Yes, I would go for it. If you let things drift into the data base you will never emerge. Let them know that you are coming in from a different direction, but that's because this job means a lot to you and you know you could do it well. Be positive. Tell them you are making this effort because you know they would be a great place to work.

Try applying for jobs at different places, never limit yourself to just one place especially because you think you have an inside source. I would call to check on any job that i have applied for unless they tell you from the get go" Don't call us; we'll call you.
i hear time Warner cable is hiring for different positions plus you get ur cable free. Good luck!

Somehow I missed the part about your sister's friend hand-delivering your resume into the employer and putting in a good word for you.

If this really is a friend and she is respected at the company and your friend knows you and respects you, ask her to hand deliver your resume to who ever is the decision maker. It's still a people to people business.
